Baller or Bust???

It’s way to early for people to be asking this question, but yet it is being asked at every turn about if Lonzo Ball is going to be a bust or not. The answer is NO, Lonzo will not be a bust in the NBA. No excuses can be made about his play, but we can say no other Rookie came in with the expectations and pressue that Lono Ball has.

First, Lonzo Ball has a father that made his son a target, because many players take the disdain they have for his father out on him in their match-ups against Lonzo. Also, Magic Johnson handed the franchise over to a 19 year old. Lastly, Lonzo has been compared to every point guard who has been an all-around game such as him, and he’s not ready to handle everything in just 23 games.

To be honest, Lonzo has things in his game he can improve on such as his shooting, and his defense. Also, his lack of aggression when he plays, it sometimes seems as he is just going through the motions of playing. We know he is playing hard and that he’s naturally laid back, but you are in the NBA and a target is on your back so you have to show it more Lonzo. On the other hand, those things aren’t what makes Lonzo special as a player. Lonzo has a passing ability ahead of his game, and he’s a good rebounder for his position. Lonzo has vision that great players have, so it shows a glimpse of his potential.

Lastly,  Lonzo is not a bad player at all. His shooting percentage may be terrible, but that isn’t his game anyway. Lonzo is still averaging solid numbers as a rookie, if everyone’s expectations weren’t this high he wouldn’t be criticized as much. Averaging 9 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists, 1 steal and a block a game is very good for a rookie. He’s not going to win Rookie of the Year if he continues shooting 31% from the field and 25% from the 3, but he will win over peoples thoughts about him because of everything else he does. Lonzo clearly makes the Lakers better, they have already won half as many games as they did all of last season, they are 11th in the west at 8-15. Last year they went 17-65, so there is still time to surpass last season’s record.
